WEEK 20: November 11, 2019

No pictures this week, so we took a screen shot!
Another week!

This week was a pretty normal week, lost my umbrella on the first day of the week, and the week that followed was the rainiest week I've seen here!  Lots of walking around soaking wet, not the funnest thing in the world!

One highlight this week came from the wettest day of the week!  I had no umbrella, and my coat decided to stop being waterproof, no one wanted to let us in, and no members were available to visit.  I was soaked and my companion too.  I asked if we could go home, shower, and change clothes.  We decided to try one more house before going in.  We knocked on the door and an older woman reluctantly let us in to say a prayer and talk a little bit about the Book of Mormon.  Once we entered, a daughter of the woman that answered the door recognized us and said “Are you missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints?”  Apparently she had heard of the church from a YouTube channel of 2 members in Utah who immigrated from Brazil.  This was so awesome!  It’s really rare to have someone call us members of The Church of Jesus Christ and not say “You guys are Mormons?”  We are hoping for the best with our new investigator!   Thanks for reading!

From our conversation:

  • They are trying to reactivate a former Bishop who is a little less active.  They went to lunch at his house this last week and Andrew and the former Bishop played hymns on the guitar.
  • Andrew gave a talk in church on Sunday about basic gospel principles because he said his Portuguese isn’t good enough yet to teach anything complicated.
  • Shout out to Aunt Emily who wrote him a really nice email this week that he liked so much that he read the whole thing to us.  Thanks for everyone who takes a minute to write to a missionary.  It means a lot to them!
  • Andrew’s good friend, Bailey Rigtrup, who just got a mission call to Andrew’s mission!
